Working together to find the right balance between socioeconomic and environmental impacts.
Mountain Province Diamonds believes that the right balance between socioeconomic and environmental impacts must be determined collaboratively, working together with the communities with whom we share the land.
We understand that transparency is the requisite foundation for collaboration.
We are committed to making information that is required for informed decision-making available to local communities, technical experts, regulators, and shareholders. We work with communities to develop, review, and refine our environmental monitoring programs and practices. We make our environmental monitoring data and reports publicly available and regularly discuss program outcomes and project plans with local communities.
Mountain Province Diamonds is committed to ensuring the socioeconomic benefits of the project are shared locally. We prioritise local purchasing and invest in community development programs through our charitable giving programs.
At our Gahcho Kué mine, 75% of goods and services were purchased from Northwest Territories-based companies in 2020, including $85 million in purchases from Indigenous-owned companies. At our Kennady North project, approximately 60% of goods and services have been sourced from northern-based businesses over the last two years.
An additional $748,000 was contributed directly to local communities in support of culture and heritage, sport, community development, education, training, and health programs in 2020. Recipient programs are selected in collaboration with communities and recognise the diversity of the communities with whom we share the land. For more information on the programs we have supported, please read the Gahcho Kué Mine 2020 Socioeconomic Report.
